Labor Day weekend will be here next month and the celebrations would not be complete without the annual Pine Needlers Quilt Show. This year’s show will be held on Saturday, September 2nd from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Capps School Gymnasium, 3375 Buckskin Canyon Road in Heber. Admission is $2 with free parking.
The annual quilt show began in the 90’s at the Rim Country Senior Center in Overgaard, with the quilts draped over chairs and tables. The Pine Needlers have grown this much anticipated show to include the ever popular Boutique which offers an abundance of unique handmade items for sale. A great place to get a start on your Christmas Shopping! We also encourage you to vote for the viewer’s Choice Award from our display of members quilts.
Don’t forget, the early birds get first choice of the wonderful home-made breads, pies, cakes, cookies and other tasty treats from the Pine Needlers’ bake sale. Needless to say they sell out every year! The show also includes several vendors selling things from fabric, notions, handmade coiled baskets to wearable art and jewelry.
Of course you will also have the opportunity to purchase tickets to win this year’s outstanding 2017 Raffle Quilt. Tickets sell for $1 each or 6 for $5. This year’s quilt, “Swirling Geese”, was paper pieced by several of the Pine Needlers members and quilted by member Marilyn Giblin. It is gorgeous and is currently being displayed at Rim Country Quilts and Papercrafting in Bison Ranch, Overgaard.
Carol Stewart will be returning with her KID’S CORNER, a very popular stop at the show where Carol shares quilt crafting with the children. Each child leaves with fun inspiration or possibly a special fabric creation all their own, along with a chance to win a small quilt.
Since the first show over 20 years ago, the Pine Needlers have focused on using the funds raised by the quilt show to help others in our community. Some of the organizations we support include Safe House, Hope House, Santa’s Kids, the School Nurse’s needs, Community Food pantry, the Senior Center and the Chamber’s Fireworks Fund.
The Pine Needlers have several ongoing charity projects they also contribute to in non-monetary ways. They make quilts to honor our local veterans and wounded service members. These quilts are given to the recipients during a biannual presentation held by the quilt group. They also donate quilts to victims of sexual trauma in the military. Children are not forgotten as quilts and other items are given to children entering into foster care in Navajo County.
The Pine Needlers invite you to join in on the fun and beautiful quilt display on Saturday, September 2nd from 9:00am to 4:00PM. SEE YOU THERE!
