Springerville, Ariz., July 19, 2017 — The Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests will be selling personal fuel wood permits for various types of dead/down and dead standing trees. Permits can be purchased at all Ranger District offices. Most permits can be purchased thru December 31.

Personal use fuelwood permits have a limit of ten cords per family per year. The annual cord limit includes both the spring permit and the fall permit. Diameter at Breast Height (DBH) is measured at four-and-a-half feet from the base of the tree at ground level. Permits are issued area specific and a map will accompany each permit.  Visit our website for more information on fuelwood permits.

Due to ever-changing weather conditions such as wind, rain and lightning, we ask that you please ‘Look up, look down, look all around’ while collecting fuelwood. Your personal safety is very important to us. Hazard trees in heavily forested areas and unsafe road conditions are some of the challenges you will encounter. Please stay alert and aware of your surroundings and any incoming weather.

As a reminder, only the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests’ District Offices listed above sell fuelwood permits and can accept the following forms of payment: cash, check, and credit card.
