On Sunday, March 26, 2017 First Southern Baptist Church of Overgaard celebrated its 65th birthday.
Our service began with Pastor Tom Doubt reading a Certificate of Commendation from Governor Doug Ducey offering his sincere appreciation to the church for “65 years of service and ministry to the community”. The governor also commended the church for its “outreach and contribution to our great State”.
Tommy Thomas, Regional Church Planter Missionary from Arizona Southern Baptist Convention, presented the church with a Certificate of Recognition “in grateful recognition and joyful celebration of 65 years working together to make disciples in Arizona and around the world” of First Southern Baptist Church.
Dr. Lowell Warren, Director of Evangelism and Missions of Desert Pines Baptist Association then presented a plaque to the church recognizing FSBCO “for 65 years of faithful and continual ministry of sharing the gospel at home and around the world”.
After these presentations our service continued beginning with the men of the church singing the hymn “When I Survey the Wondrous Cross”. Following the service, a delicious pot luck was served.
Jo Ann Kendall, the longest attending member of the church, told of some of the interesting historical events in the early church. Her parents donated the land on which the church was built and she began attending at age 5. We were then honored when she cut the birthday cake celebrating the church’s 65th birthday.
